The clasp has a steel spring inside, which allows it to open and close; the weight shown is the total weight, including the spring, which cannot be removed without destroying the clasp.

For a richer yellow colour, the surface is plated with a layer of 18K gold. The colour layer is a surface finish and may wear over time with heavy use; the base metal remains 8K gold.
